Moray Golf Club Old Course

What we say
A day at Moray Golf Club is one of the great experiences in Scottish Golf, not least because of the Old Course.
Laid out on the edge of the Lossiemouth RAF base, Moray’s Old Course begins and ends in the town a la its namesake in St Andrews – what’s more, the Auld Grey Toun’s iconic figure Old Tom Morris was the designer.

It’s great fun to manoeuvre over and round the humps and hillocks; less entertaining to extract your ball from the swathes of gorse which line many of the fairways.

Seven par 4s over 400 yards say this is no gentle seaside stroll and it’s position in the middle of our Links Top 100 in front of many prestigious names tells you what we think of it.
Expect the deep revetted bunkers and especially the abundance of gorse that lines the rippling fairways to mess with your score.

The greens, too, are no pushover, offering subtle undulations under their pristine links surfaces. With input from Swan Designs, the Old is likely only to rise in future rankings.
The New here is also a wonderful course and a day at Moray is one of the great experiences in Scottish golf.

There are two 18 hole courses here. We played the 'New' course in the morning and thought it was fine, with good greens and some challenging holes. At 6,068 yards, it's tough into the wind. The par 3s were especially difficult with the cross breeze! After a good lunch in the impressive Club House, we tackled the 'old' course. This was in even better condition than the 'New', with beautifully kept greens and approaches. A good and tough course at 6,572 yards. A word of warning..........lots of aircraft acvtivity from the RAF station which borders the course. Be prepared to duck the incoming fighters - measured one with my laser range finder at 32 yards above our heads. Becomes a bit of a nuisance after the 30th has flown right across your shot............
