The James Braid design at Fraserburgh Golf Club is gaining much favour these days.

The club itself is steeped in history. Records suggest the game was first played on these links as far back as 1613, though Braid’s work came in 1922.

Playing Fraserburgh, you’ll experience the same dose of rippling links fairways and pure-running greens as elsewhere on the trip, along with a stiff breeze coming in from the North Sea.
The course is good enough to sit in the midway point in our Scottish Top 100 and well inside the cut-off mark for our GB&I Links ranking.

Links golf as it should be.
Apart from hole 1 & 18, every hole is pure links. We played it in benign conditions and it was still tough, with a wind !! The fairways are reasonably wide and with a lot of undulations, but the rough is penal, but if you're lucky you can find your ball. The course criss crosses in and out, so you never play more than two consecutive holes in the same direction. The greens are tricky and are medium fast, with many a break. My favourite hole is No 10 called "Solitude" not the longest par 4, but a tricky drive and a small well bunkered green, not the high stroke index it has. The only disappointment was that after afterwards there was no food available, and it was only mid afternoon. It was our second visit in two years, and we would definitely play it again if in the area.

The course was in very good condition, and the weather was favourable on the day we played,, very enjoyable,, The members and staff in clubhouse were friendly and welcoming. Recommend.

A wonderful, unspoiled links
Tucked up there in Aberdeenshire, is Fraserburgh. This is a delightful, old style links, weaving in and around dunes, perfectly designed by nature as golf was meant to be. It is a wonderful test of golf and you will find a warm greeting at the clubhouse. For those who just want a quick hit, there is also a nice little 9 holer just across the road, behind the clubhouse. Don't miss a chance to play Fraserburgh - as nice a links as you will find and a bargain as well.
