Trevose Golf Club

What we say
Trevose Golf Club boasts some of the best views of the Atlantic from a course that is more playable than many championship golf courses.
The Championship course at Trevose (there are also two nine-hole courses here, Headland and Short) was laid out around the edge of Booby’s Bay in 1925 by Harry Colt.

It is something of a paradox; some think its wide fairways and spectacular views make it perfect holiday golf and yet it is regarded highly enough among the echelons of British golf administration to have hosted the 2008 Brabazon Trophy and the McGregor Trophy in 2012.

These championships are not given to courses without pedigree.
Colt’s name and work perhaps help and certainly his familiar two-loop design is in evidence here, with the front half taking you along the coastline and the back nine heading inland and then back to the clubhouse.

And while we have emphasised its championship history and suggest that it is wise not to be taken lightly, Trevose’s main attractions remain its stirring Atlantic Ocean views and its praiseworthy ‘playable’ experience.
Tom Mackenzie of Mackenzie & Ebert has been renovating Trevose for several years and has made a significant difference to this scenic seaside course; one of our south-west England experts believes it would sit 30 places higher in our Links Top 100 very comfortably.
Incidentally, it is also home to a range of holiday accommodation, from new Fairway Lodges which sleep up to six people to Dormy flats for two. Trevose can actually accommodate up to 130 people at any one time.

I played this on the 2-4-1. This cost us £20 per head with the 2-4-1 and was a fantastic bargain. I did have to pay a £10 a head deposit which was a gamble in such weather. Its on a par with Burnham & Berrow but at £20 a great bargain. As it was the end of January and still very cold they were very glad to see us. We drove down from Bristol so were not best pleased to see the closed signs after a 3 hr drive! However, the brief snow that morning gave way to a lovely day. What a fantastic course. We had heard stories of how the greens had been killed a few years ago by overfeeding. They were flawless when we were there. The course has had a great deal of work done on it to maintain its conditions. But not slapdash. Drains were clear and trimmed. The club house was welcoming but the catering chaotic but then there was very few people about so we can forgive them! Watch out for the views! Waves crashing over distant crags and golden beaches over the hedgerows. We didn't stay overnight but there was loads of accomodation beside the cousre which may mean it will be busy in the summer. Try it this time of the year is my recommendation. A real pleaseure and we had it all to ourselves. Thank you Trevose!

As a regular visitor (for 10 years) of Trevose Golf and Country Club I'm delighted to see that the course has once again returned to magnificent condition. The greens were particularly well kept when I visited on the 10th of September 2009, providing a fast and true putting surface. I took the time to personally thank the greens staff for the excellent presentation of the course. We were also delighted with our accommodation, which since our last stay has been updated to a very high standard. Both staff and club members have always been freindly and welcoming at Trevose. I would highly recommend people to return to a fantastic golfing venue.

This course is a must to anyone touring the South West . Fantastic coastal location and challenging but well designed course. Beware deep bunkers everywhere!! The greens are very quick and have huge undulations which can be quite daunting This is a links course with quite punishing rough but generally a lot of room to play your shots. I played this course on a benign day , I am sure the course would be a lot tougher in windy conditions. Great course a must to play.
