My review of the Ping PLD Milled Anser Putter questions whether their most recent model of this iconic blade is their best yet
The Ping Anser has undoubtedly stood the test of time. Ping first introduced the Anser in 1959, when they first started manufacturing putters. Over the years the Anser has constantly featured in the discussion of the best putters in the game. In 2023, Ping debuted their initial series of PLD putters which, of course, included an Anser – so what have they done in a year to improve this beloved blade putter?
The Anser is a common sighting on the golf course, whether you’re playing around your local golf course or watching any professional golf tournament. There is a large number of Tour players who rely on a Ping Anser of some sort to help them on the greens including Joaquin Niemann, Jennifer Kupcho, and Ally Ewing who all play with a PLD Anser putter.
How does this most recent PLD Milled Anser putter compare to the 2023 PLD Anser putter? There is one very obvious change, which for me, instantly elevates the new PLD Anser above the Anser from the original PLD series. The unmissable addition of a clear white alignment line is very much appreciated. While other Anser models, such as the Anser 2 and Anser D from the 2023 PLD range are fitted with an alignment line, not every golfer wants to venture from the traditional Anser to receive alignment aid.
The material and building process of this PLD Anser is exactly the same as the 2023 Anser – the main difference is the alignment line which I only see as a positive. The white alignment line contrasts beautifully with the gunmetal finish and it really does make a major difference when lining up putts and squaring the club head at address.
What technology features in the Ping PLD Milled Anser Putter
Power of the machines
Like all putters released in both the first and second wave of Ping PLD putters – except for the Ally Blue 4 – the Anser is fully-machined from 303-stainless steel.
Aggressive Milling Pattern
The deep Aggressive Milling Pattern (AMP) on the face gives a surface texture developed with tour player input. Every model in Ping’s impressive collection of PLD putters undergoes meticulous milling for over four hours to ensure precise shaping, resulting in superior sound, feel, and speed on the greens.
Gunmetal finish
Ping have ditched the matte black and satin finishes they elected for on the original PLD putters released in 2023. Instead, they have opted for a gunmetal finish that screams high quality and is very aesthetically pleasing. The white alignment line that’s been added to the PLD Anser works extremely well contrasting with the gunmetal finish. I’m sure this finish will go down a treat on Tour and in the amateur game.

Ping have answered all of my prayers by adding an alignment line to the PLD Anser. The gunmetal finish is super clean and it contrasts perfectly with the white alignment line. Once you feast your eyes upon this Ping PLD Anser it’s easy to see why the Anser is the winning most putter head in golf history. The Anser exudes luxury and sophistication while performing to the highest standard.
The Anser is the putter of choice for so many golfers for clear reasons and this new PLD Anser can easily be one of their most successful iterations to date because of its increased forgiveness and alignment assistance.
If you prefer a putter that is slightly heavier and has a larger presence behind the ball then you might want to consider one of the best mallet putters, as opposed to a putter as sleight as the Ping Anser.
