What’s In The Bag: Rose Zhang

One of the rising stars in golf, we take a look at what’s in Rose Zhang’s bag

Jump To: Zhang’s WITB

Rose Zhang is one of the biggest stars in golf and she’s only been on the world stage for a short period of time. The American has notched up seven top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour and is a two-time winner, her most recent victory coming at the 2024 Cognizant Founders Cup.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

After a glittering amateur career, Zhang turned pro in May 2023 and wasted no time securing her first professional victory, winning the Mizuho Americas Open to become the first player to win an LPGA Tour event on their professional debut since 1951.

Before turning professional, the American was enjoying a very successful season as an amateur. In April 2023, Zhang won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, and later that month she set the record for the most consecutive weeks as the world’s number one ranked amateur – 141 weeks.

May was the month when everything escalated (with her LPGA Tour win on debut), Zhang turned professional following her second and consecutive victory in the individual NCAA Championship, becoming the first woman to win the individual award twice.

Zhang’s rise to fame this season saw her achieve a position on the USA Solheim Cup Team. She joined the team as a rookie at 20 years old – what took her so long?! We imagine this was the first of many appearances despite only achieving half a point all week.

Rose Zhang will represent Team USA at the 2023 Solheim Cup as a rookie at the event in Andalucia, Spain at Finca Cortesin

The Californian has enjoyed a brilliant first year on the LPGA Tour and we’re sure she’ll have a long and successful golf career. Zhang has already broken into the top 10 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings – currently sitting sixth in the rankings.

Let’s jump into it and take a look at what equipment this superstar is using…

What’s In The Bag: Rose Zhang

What driver does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang uses a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond Driver (9°) with a Fujikura Ventus Red 5 Stiff shaft

Price: £399.00
Rose Zhang is a Callaway staffer and all of her equipment is from the golfing giant. She uses the most recent model driver - Callaway Paradym. The model Zhang uses is the Triple Diamond which is the lowest-spinnning and least forgiving head.

What fairway woods does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang plays with a Callaway Rogue ST LS Fairway Wood (13.5°) with a Fujikura Ventus Red 6 Regular shaft

Price: £179.00
This is the first of two fairway woods Zhang has in the bag. It's a 3-wood that has been adjusted to have 13.5° of loft. It's an amazing club to use off the tee and in the fairway. Unlike the Paradym driver in the American's bag, this is the previous model Rogue ST LS which is also the least forgiving and lowest-spinning head.

Rose Zhang has a Callaway Rogue ST LS Fairway Wood (18°) with a Fujikura Ventus Red 6 Regular shaft

Price: £179.00
The second fairway wood in Rose Zhang's bag is a Callaway Rogue ST LS 5-wood at 18°. Having two fairway woods is becoming more and more popular because of the increased versatility off the tee and attacking greens. This is also a low-spin model to match the 3-wood.

What hybrid does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang uses a Callaway Paradym Hybrid (20°) with a KBS Tour Hybrid 75 Regular shaft

Price: £199.00

American Golf
£219.00
To go with the three woods already in Zhang's bag is a Callaway Paradym hybrid. The hybrid in Zhang's bag is a 4-iron replacement that she has set to 20°. Hybrids are fantastic clubs that tend to generate more distance than the iron equivalent because they are easier to hit and much more versatile from a range of lies.

What irons does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang plays with a full set of Callaway Apex 21 Irons (5-PW) with Nippon 850 Regular shafts

Price: £1099.00 / $1295.00 RRP
Callaway manufactures some of the best irons on the market. You could guess a number of models that might be in the bag of one of golf's rising stars. Callaway's Apex 21 irons have earned their place as Zhang's irons of choice.

These aren't the hardest heads to get away with and they are quite strong lofted - very different to what you might expect from such a brilliant ball striker, but golf's hard enough, maybe Zhang just wants to make it easier.

What wedges does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang has a complete set of three Callaway Jaws Raw Wedges (50°/10S, 54°/10S & 58°/08C) with True Temper XP95 R300 shafts

Raw finish wedges are increasing in popularity, and Zhang clearly doesn't have an issue using raw wedges. All three of her Callaway Jaws wedges are in the raw finish which does help with spin and control. Zhang's three wedges are lofted 50, 54, and 58, transitioning perfectly with her set of irons.

What putter does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang plays with an Odyssey Ai-One Double Wide DB Putter

Price: £289.00 / $299.99 RRP
It's not surprising that a Callaway staffer is using one of Odyssey's Ai-One range putters. The American's favorite model is the Ai-One Double Wide DB putter. Putting isn't the strongest element of Zhang's game (strange considering how many accolades she's amassed) but using an Odyssey Ai-One putter certainly makes putting that little bit easier.

What golf balls does Rose Zhang use?

Rose Zhang opts for Callaway Chrome Tour X Golf Balls

Price: £47.95
Alternative Retailers
American Golf
£47.99
Zhang is another Callaway Tour professional who reaches for Callaway Chrome Tour X golf balls because they are the best premium golf balls Callaway offers. They are very high spinning around the greens and low spinning off the tee - the perfect combination.
