What’s In The Bag: Hideki Matsuyama

What golf clubs does Asia’s most prolific PGA Tour winner play with? Let’s take a look at what’s in the bag for Hideki Matsuyama in 2024
Hideki Matsuyama’s victory at the 2024 Genesis Invitational was his ninth on the PGA Tour, making the Japanese international Asia’s most prolific PGA Tour winner, having now amassed more titles than K.J. Choi. Hideki fired in an impressive nine-under-par final round 62 to defeat America’s Will Zalatoris and Luke List by three shots.
Despite feeling like “a 3-over round”, considering his ball-striking was only “ok”, and enduring some controversy during a chip shot on 17, Matsuyama’s early clubhouse lead wasn’t ousted by any of the leading contenders at the start of the day. This is the second time that the 31-year-old has shot 62 or better in a final round to win on the PGA Tour – only two other golfers have achieved this on multiple occasions – Rory McIlroy and Jason Day.
Before winning the 2024 Genesis Invitational, Matsuyama hadn’t really been knocking on the door, being absent from the top 10 for 343 days and it was 763 days since his previous latest victory at the 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii.
Prior to his win at the Sony Open, Matsuyama enjoyed a successful 2021, winning the ZOZO Championship in the Fall and becoming the Masters Champion in the Spring, which produced one of the most special moments in Masters history. Hideki won the Masters four years after claiming the 2017 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational – taking an extended vacation from the winner’s circle clearly doesn’t bother Hideki!
Between 2011 and 2017, Matsuyama claimed fourteen international victories on the professional circuit (one as an amateur), on the PGA Tour and Japan Golf Tour – in total, Hideki has amassed eight victories on the Japan Golf Tour.
Over the years, Matsuyama has relied on Srixon golf equipment to propel him to the heights he’s reached throughout his career, but what exactly does the most decorated Asian in PGA Tour history play with?
