What’s In The Bag: Sergio Garcia

Today’s Golfer takes a look inside the bag of Sergio Garcia, the Masters Champion, Ryder Cup star, and current LIV Golf player.

Sergio Garcia started playing golf at the age of three, after his father who was a club professional, started to teach him. He went on to win his home club championship at the age of 12, and age 15 became the youngest player to make the cut in a European Tour event.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

Garcia turned professional in 1999, at age 19, after shooting the lowest amateur score at The Masters that year. He won his first European Tour event just six starts in to his professional career, at the Irish Open.

In 2002, Garcia became the youngest player to compete in a Ryder Cup, representing Team Europe at The Belfry in England.

Garcia spent most of his career inside the top-10 of the World Golf Rankings, reaching second after his win at the HSBC Champions event in 2008.

In 2010, he announced he would be taking a break from golf after missing the cut at the USPGA Championship, and he dropped out of the top 50 of the World Golf Rankings. He was due to miss the Ryder Cup that year, until captain Colin Montgomerie named him as his fourth Vice Captain for the battle at Celtic Manor.

Garcia returned to regular tournaments later that year, and ended his three-year title drought with back-to-back wins at the Castelló Masters and the Andalucía Masters.

In 2017, Garcia beat Justin Rose in a playoff to claim the green jacket, and his maiden major, The Masters. He went on to win three more times on the European Tour, and once on the PGA Tour over the next few years.

In 2022, Garcia joined the LIV breakaway golf tour, and was suspended from playing in future PGA Tournaments. He is now the captain of the Fireballs LIV team, and has resigned his membership of the European Tour.

Garcia has 16 career wins on the European Tour and 11 on the PGA Tour.
