Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 drivers Review

The new Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 drivers feature a more compact head, new adjustability system and use a “breakthrough” titanium in their face that has never been seen in golf.

Two years on from their TS (Titleist Speed) drivers, we have the TSi2 and TSi3. There’s a lot more to the new clubs than an extra letter, but that ‘i’ represents the impact, innovation and inertia you’ll find in the new models, which not only makes them challengers to the best Titleist drivers but also the best drivers on the market.

Titleist have become the first golf brand to used ATI 425 Aerospace Titanium, a material that was originally developed for ballistic armour and used in NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander due to its high strength-to-weight ratio.

It provides considerably more elasticity and durability than the conventional titaniums normally seen in golf. Using ATI 425 in the TSi2 and TSi3 drivers has allowed Titleist’s engineers to create the brand’s fastest ever face that produces a fast ball launch from any point of contact.

Aerodynamic engineers have reshaped the crown, managing to reduce drag in the TSi2 and TSi3 drivers by up to 15 per cent over previous generation TS models, boosting clubhead speed for greater ball speed and distance. High inertia helps produce an extremely stable clubhead for more consistent speed and spin.

As well as heel to toe forgiveness, TSi also optimises sole to crown performance, increasing inertia by up to 13 per cent higher over TS.

TSi’s speed-optimised MOI works together with a low and deep centre of gravity to produce faster ball speeds with a high launch, low spin and exceptional stability for more consistency.

Since their September introduction TSi have become the most-played drivers on the PGA Tour with more than 100 players putting them in the bag, including Justin Thomas (TSi3), Adam Scott  (TSi3), Jordan Spieth (TSi3), Rafael Cabrera Bello (TSi3), Cameron Smith (TSi3), Ben An (TSi3), Charley Hoffman (TSi3) Jimmy Walker (TSi3), Lucas Bjerregaard (TSi3), Brian Harman (TSi2), Will Zalatoris (TS2), Bernd Wiesberger  (TSi3), Charles Howell III (TSi3), Lanto Griffin (TSi2), Bill Haas (TSi2), Tyler Duncan (TSi2) and Andrew Johnston (TSi3).

It was tour feedback from the likes of Thomas and Spieth that led to the softer toe profile seen in both clubheads, which creates an almost square look at address.

A new contrasting head design highlights the centre for easy alignment and there’s a Tour-quality sound at impact.

Both the TSi2 and TSi3 drivers feature Titleist’s SureFit hosel with 16 independent loft and lie settings, plus headweight adjustability (in two-gram increments, ranging from -4g to 4g) to create an ideal and consistent ball flight for your game.

Titleist say they’ve CT tested every driver head in multiple locations to ensure performance is at the maximum legal limit.

Titleist are expected to add further models to the TSi line in the coming months. A TSi4 driver has already been seen on the USGA Conforming List and in the bag of at least one PGA Tour pro and, while Titleist are yet to confirm a TSi1, we fully expect to see such a model aimed at golfers with slower swing speeds just as we did with the TS range.

Which Titleist TSi driver is right for me?

Titleist TSi2

The more modern-shaped TSi2 is aimed at players who want speed and accuracy across the entire face.

It has an exceptionally stable high-MOI design with an adjustable swingweight and deeper, lower fixed CG to maximise distance through high launch and low spin.

Titleist TSi3

The more compact, traditional-pear-shaping of TSi3 is aimed at more consistent ball-strikers seeking ultimate control over their flight.

The new five-setting SureFit CG track offers more precise adjustments, from ‘most heel biased’ through to ‘most toe biased’, allowing players to fine-tune their shot shape and launch. Unlike TS3, the weight is now easily visible, allowing you to see its position without removing any parts. Its location at the very rear of the club also increases stability on those off-centre hits.

What are the Titleist TSi driver shaft options?

The featured shaft line-up includes four new aftermarket models – Mitsubishi KURO KAGE Black Dual-Core 5G (High launch and spin), Mitsubishi TENSEI AV RAW Blue (Mid launch and spin), HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX (Low-mid launch and spin) and Mitsubishi TENSEI™ AV RAW White (Low launch and spin).

Moderate swing speed players will benefit from Straight Flight Weighting (SFW) technology, which promotes straight flight in lightweight driver shaft options (KURO KAGE Black Dual Core 50 and TENSEI AV Raw Blue 55).

For an additional £170 you can add one of three premium shafts from Graphite Design. The Graphite Design Tour AD DI, Graphite Design Tour AD IZ and Graphite Design Tour AD XC (Xtra Carry) are engineered with aerospace-quality carbon-fibre materials for incredible stability, consistency and feel and among the most coveted shafts on Tour.

What about the Titleist TSi grip and headcovers?

The grip is the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grey flat cap, which is designed for adjustable drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids. It features the popular look and feel of the Tour Velvet non-slip surface pattern in a 360-degree design, with double-dash rings on both ends for a consistent appearance regardless of shaft orientation or adjustments.

The headcovers are emblazoned with ‘TSi’ in a clean and stylish design using a black, white, grey and red colour combination.
