What’s In The Bag: Danielle Kang

Today’s Golfer takes a look inside the bag of LPGA Tour veteran and serial winner Danielle Kang

Jump To: Kang’s WITB

Danielle Kang is somewhat of a veteran on the LPGA Tour, her rookie year was in 2012. It took Kang a few years to break into the winner’s circle, but she finally did in 2017 by winning the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship – the American’s most impressive victory to date.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

Becoming a Major Champion is something every golfer dreams of, and after achieving that dream in 2017 Kang earned a place on the 2017 USA Solheim Cup Team where she helped her team to victory. The Californian-born golfer was also part of the 2019, 2021, and 2023 USA Solheim Cup Team – unfortunately, all ended in defeat.

Life on the LPGA Tour has been very up and down for Kang. After winning her first event in 2017 she had to wait over a year for the next to come. She emerged victorious at the inaugural 2018 Buick LPGA Shanghai, beating a whole host of top players by two strokes. A year after this win, she won the same event in 2019, for her third victory on the LPGA Tour.

Danielle Kang's last victory on Tour was the 2022 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions

Her most recent victory came at the 2022 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. This victory came over a year after her back-to-back wins at the 2020 LPGA Drive On Championship and Marathon Classic. In between Kang’s six LPGA Tour victories, her seasons have been littered with top 10 finishes, overall she’s closed out a tournament in the top 10 on 57 occasions.

Despite not being in the winner’s enclosure since January 2022, Kang did enough again this year to earn a spot at the 2023 Solheim Cup. As the oldest member of the team who headed to Finca Cortesin at the age of 30, she was one of the most experienced members of the team. Sadly, her presence couldn’t help USA to victory.

The world number 29 is a Titleist ambassador, so it’s no surprise to find out that all of her equipment is Titleist, but what models does Kang have in her bag?

What’s In The Bag: Danielle Kang

What driver does Danielle Kang use?

Danielle Kang uses a Titleist TSR2 Driver (8°) with a Mitsubishi TENSEI 1K Pro Blue shaft

Price: £529.00 / $599.99 RRP
Off the tee, Kang isn't the strongest on the LPGA Tour. She may not be the longest hitter - averaging 245.11 yards with the driver this season - but distance isn't everything. The American has found the fairway 71.22% of the time in 2023 which is middle of the pack.

Kang has been very open about her struggles this season, but she still hits it very well (most of the time) off the tee and leaves herself in good positions - the key to scoring better.

What fairway woods does Danielle Kang use?

Danielle Kang has a Titleist TSR2+ Fairway Wood (13°) with a Mitsubishi TENSEI™ 1K Pro White shaft

Price: £289.00
This is the first of two fairway woods Kang has in the bag. Having a fairway wood with 13° of loft makes it perfect as a driver replacement off the tee and also brilliant for attacking long par 5s.

Danielle Kang plays a Titleist TSi3 Fairway Wood (18°) with a Mitsubishi TENSEI AV Raw Blue shaft

Price: £199.00 / $169.99 - $349.99 (pre-owned)
Unlike the other two clubs at the top of Kang's back, she hasn't replaced this club with the newer TSR3, like Caroline Hedwall has. This is clearly a club Kang is happy with and can depend on, hence why she hasn't swapped it (yet).

What irons does Danielle Kang use?

Danielle Kang has a full set of Titleist 716 CB Irons (4-9) with Nippon NS Pro 950GH S shafts

Price: £175.00 / $175.00 RRP
It's very surprising when a Tour player is holding on to clubs this old, but Kang is clearly content with her Titleist 716 CB irons. These clubs were released in 2015, and since then Titleist have produced countless replacements Kang could have reached for.

It must be confidence and familiarity that keeps her going back to these irons because her GIR percentage on Tour this season has been quite low, at 63.31% she ranks 124th - is it time to take these out of the bag?

The 716 CB irons are no longer available to purchase, but you can pick up the newest model - Titleist 620 CB irons.

What wedges does Danielle Kang use?

Danielle Kang uses three Titleist Vokey Design SM7 Wedges (46°, 50°, and 54°) with <meta charset="utf-8">Nippon NS Pro 950GH S shafts

Price: £159.99 / $149.99 RRP (per club)
There's a recurring trend here. Kang apparently doesn't like to swap her equipment, even as regularly as amateur golfers! Her wedges aren't as old as her irons, but they are from 2018. With Vokey's being so popular it's very odd to find a golfer not playing with the most recent model.

It's a similar story for wedge play as it is for every other element of Kang's game this season - very average. I'm sure she isn't playing with the same SM7s she was back in 2018, but it might be worth ditching them for the latest iteration.

Danielle Kang uses a special Titleist Vokey Design Prototype Wedge (58°) with a <meta charset="utf-8">Nippon NS Pro 950GH S shaft

Price: £159.99 / $149.99 RRP (per club)
It's not very often a player has a prototype wedge, but Kang does. The American has just one in the bag and it's her lob wedge.

What putter does Danielle Kang use?

Price: £429.00 / $449.99 RRP
This is a one-of-one putter, purpose-built for Danielle Kang "DK". There is no other putter in golf like this one and unfortunately, it's not in production. Putting has been Kang's strong point this season, ranking 2nd for putts per GIR and putting average. Seems as though changing putter at the start of the season was a stroke of genius.

With this being a personal putter you obviously can't find this exact club, but there are a few similar models. One of which is the Scotty Cameron Super Select Del Mar Putter.

What golf balls does Danielle Kang use?

Danielle Kang opts for Titleist Pro V1x Golf Balls

Rrp: £50.00

Price: £47.95
Alternative Retailers
Scottsdale Golf
£47.99
American Golf
£47.99
Being a Titleist staffer Kang is most likely expected to play with Titleist golf balls, but she most likely would. do anyway. Kang reaches for the Pro V1x over the Pro V1 because they suit her game better.
