What’s In The Bag: Carlota Ciganda

Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag of Carlota Ciganda, the Spanish Solheim Cup stalwart and seven-time European Tour winner

Since turning professional in 2011, the Arizona State University graduate from Pamplona, Spain has amassed nine wins across the European and LPGA Tours and has become a mainstay in the world’s top 50 golfers.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

Ciganda’s selection in six consecutive Solheim Cup teams from 2013 is a testament to that consistency, and will once more don European colors in 2023 for the game’s greatest team competition in her home nation.

Carlota Ciganda has represented Europe in six consecutive Solheim Cups from 2013

Ciganda’s most recent victory came at the 2023 Aramco Team Series event in Florida where she held off Klara Spilkova by a stroke. The Spaniard is a two-time champion at the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open (2019, 2022), and a winner at the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open De Espana (2021).

Despite being a prolific winner on tour, Ciganda is yet to secure a breakthrough Major victory, her best performance to date being four third-placed finishes at the US Open, Evian Championship, and twice at the PGA Championship.

Let’s rip off the headcovers and take a look at what’s in the bag of Carlota Ciganda.

What driver does Carlota Ciganda use?

Carlota Ciganda uses a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver (8.5°) with a Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana PD shaft

Price: £399.00
Callaway has done away with their LS marque for 2023, so if you’re looking for a low-spin Callaway model, Triple Diamond is the way to go.

The low-spinning Paradym Triple Diamond driver is a popular choice with tour pros, with many Callaway players seeing an increase of 2-3mph ball speed over the previous Rogue ST model.

In our driver’s test, we found that the Paradym Triple Diamond will be a cracking driver when it’s in the right hands. If you swing with the speed and consistency of Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele, this may be the perfect driver for you. The chances are that many of you reading this don’t swing as precisely as these tour players so may want to look for a low-spin driver with a little more forgiveness.

TG’s test pro Neil Wain said when hit out the middle the Paradym Triple Diamond is a rocket. This is proven in our test, with the Paradym Triple Diamond ranking second for carry distance. However, testing also showed that anything hit off-center was punished severely by the Paradym, resulting in a 59-yard-left-to-right dispersion.

What fairway woods does Carlota Ciganda use?

Carlota Ciganda uses a Callaway Paradym fairway wood (15°) with a Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana PD shaft

Price: £379.00 / $379.99 RRP
Ciganda additionally carries an older Callaway Rogue ST five-wood with the same shaft.

The Callaway Paradym is a seriously good-looking fairway wood. The head sits beautifully square, the face grooves highlight the center of the face and the size is more friendly than frighteningly compact.

Paradym was our 3rd fastest and joint 3rd longest (252 yards) fairway wood, so it's an impressive package.

But the addition of an adjustable hosel has seen Paradym's price reach an eye-watering level, which we think will be prohibitive to non-Callaway fans. If you are a Callaway fan and willing to stump up the money, then you're getting a great all-rounder fairway wood.

What irons does Carlota Ciganda use?

Carola Ciganda uses Srixon ZX7 MKII irons (5-PW) and a Srixon ZX MKII 4-iron with a Graphite Design hybrid shaft

Price: 899.00 / $1,199.99 RRP
The ZX7, with its very Japanese high-toe shape, is a simple but very classy beauty – and that’s usually what ‘players’ ask for. There’s nothing to not like about this sleek but powerful model.

Our pro was really impressed by the feel and feedback from the ZX7, and the data it produced against its peers (see our 2021 Players’ Iron Test here)is undeniably impressive. A 7-iron carry of 168 yards was our third longest in testing, but more impressive than that was how the ZX7 combined that power with only dropping seven yards (4.2%) between on- and off-center strikes (third best), which really helps consistency and scoring on the course.

What wedges does Carlota Ciganda use?

Carlota Ciganda uses Cleveland RTX 6 Tour Rack Raw wedges (50, 56, 60°) all with standard bounce angles

Cleveland has a massive pedigree for making great wedges and the RTX 6 is their brand new tour-level offering for 2023. We’ll put our cards on the table upfront and say you won’t find a better-looking wedge on the market.

We love the compact size, the straight leading-edge profile, and the new super-aggressive CNC Milling pattern on the toe, which brings full-face groove levels of stopping power to traditional groove wedges.

Our best 2023 wedge test data has the ZipCore hovering just under average levels of backspin, but with so many factors to consider when buying new wedges, it’s worth remembering you should never just pick the highest spinning wedges.

What putter does Carlota Ciganda use?

Carlotta Ciganda uses an Odyssey White Hot Pro No7 putter

Price: 219.00 / $275.00 RRP
The unusually shaped XG No 7 has earned the nickname ‘Fang’ for obvious reasons. Odyssey claims its new insert is softer and promotes a better roll, and our spin test supports that. The fangs hold the putter steady through the stroke, and they aid alignment.

This was one of our pro’s favorites, as it was simple to align, felt good and was great for promoting a rocking back-and-through stroke. But we reckon the golf head could be a fraction larger to inspire extra confidence for the average golfer, as we struggled with consistency on longer putts.

Introduced on Tour last September, the 2023 Titleist Pro V1x – arguably the best golf ball in the game – had been in development since the end of 2021.

The urethane cover on the Pro V1x is created by mixing two components, with the liquid urethane cast into Titleist-manufactured cavities to form the appropriate dimple pattern into the cover. Titleist says the precise timing and temperature are integral to the consistency of golf’s No.1 ball.

The 348-dimple design was a huge change in the 2021 ball and, unsurprisingly, that remains on the new model to optimize aerodynamics. The casing works with the new core to reduce excess long-game spin while combining with the cover to create greenside spin.
