Not since Vijay Singh in 2008 has a player in his 40s won back-to-back tournaments on the PGA Tour.
Fifteen years later, carding 15-under par at the FedEx St Jude Championship, Lucas Glover (43) rolled back the years to force a playoff, and eventual victory over Patrick Cantley, for his second win in as many weeks.
Glover pocketed $3.6 million for the win at TPC Southwind, which added to the £1.4 million from his 2-stroke victory at the Wyndham Championship, made for a rather productive fortnight.
A win at the 2021 John Deer Classic was the last time Glover lifted silverware prior to Wyndham, ending a 10-year absence from the winner’s circle.
It feels as though Glover is a player at his most dangerous when flying under the radar. Write him off at your peril.
Ranked 71st in the World Golf Rankings, and having never made a cut at the US Open, Glover held off Major winners Phil Mickelson and David Duval to capture the 2009 edition at Bethpage by two strokes.
The win propelled Glover to a career-high ranking of 15 at the time, and in 2023, the 43-year-old is on the charge again, climbing into the World’s top 30 after his surprise back-to-back triumphs.
On his rise from 119th to 53rd to 30th in the last fortnight, Glover said: “If you would have told me this three months ago, I’d tell you you’re crazy. But at the same time, if you asked me legitimately did I think I was capable, I’d say yes, even then.
It’s just one of those sad ways athletes are wired. We always believe in ourselves no matter how bad it is.”
It takes a special player to win back-to-back on Tour, irrespective of age, and with his putting woes finally behind him, Lucas Glover is a player no one will be underestimating going into the Tour Championship and beyond.
Let’s take a look inside the bag of the man from Greenville, South Carolina.

What driver does Lucas Glover use?
Lucas Glover uses a Srixon Z 785 driver (9.5°) with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 X shaft
At under 300 yards, Glover is well below the field average for distance, which goes to show, as was the case with Brian Harman, that distance is by no means the be-all and end-all.

What fairway wood does Lucas Glover use?
Lucas Glover uses a Ping G430 Max 3-wood (15°) with a Fujikura Ventus Black 8 X shaft
Long approach shots are a solid area of Glover's game, typically performing better than the field average with approaches from over 200 yards, typically getting within 50 feet.

What irons does Lucas Glover use?
Lucas Glover uses Srixon ZX5 (4) and ZX7 (5-PW) Mk II irons with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts

What putter does Lucas Glover use?
Lucas Glover uses a broomstick-build L.A.B Golf Mezz.1 Max putter
Despite some initial teething problems, Glover and his team were certain they were on the right lines to turning a corner with the changed flat stick. And that faith was well placed with the decision now paying dividends and his game in the best all-round shape it has been for quite some time.
The Mezz.1 Max offers outrageous stability. It was created for golfers that prefer larger putters or are seeking the most forgiveness possible. It is available in Standard-Length, ArmLock, and Broomstick builds.
What golf ball does Lucas Glover use?
Lucas Glover uses a Srixon Z-Star XV golf ball
The 2023 model has a new three-piece construction, and it’s designed to fly higher and further than the standard Z-Star. Srixon like to say if your birdies start with a big tee shot then this is probably the ball for you.
Compared to the Z-Star Diamond the XV generates a little less mid-iron and wedge spin, but is also a little longer from the tee.
