What’s In The Bag: Ashleigh Buhai
Published: Last updated:
Ashleigh Buhai won her first Major title at the AIG Women’s Open at Muirfield, breaking the course record. But what equipment did she use for her victory?
The South African headed into the final round with a five-shot lead but looked like she’d thrown the title away when she triple-bogeyed the 15th hole to fall back into a tie with three-time Major champion In Gee Chun.
Buhai held her nerve over the final three holes to secure a sudden-death play-off with Chun. The pair both made par on the first extra hole, before bogeying it the second time, and narrowly missing birdie putts at the third attempt. Buhai then made a superb up-and-down for par at the fourth play-off hole to lift the title and take home the $1.1m winner’s cheque.

Victory – her first in more than four years and first on the LPGA Tour – sees Buhai follow in the footsteps of fellow South Africans Gary Player and Ernie Els in winning The Open at Muirfield.
The 33-year-old, who has four LET wins, is a Srixon staff player but isn’t on a full bag deal so has flexibility among her 14 clubs.
