What’s In The Bag: Leona Maguire

What golf clubs and ball does Leona Maguire use? Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag of the Irish two-time LPGA Tour winner.
Leona Maguire became the first Irishwoman to win on the LPGA Tour with her victory at the LPGA Drive On Championship. The 27-year-old won by three shots from Lexi Thompson at the Crown Colony Golf and Country Club on her 50th LPGA start.
A second LPGA Tour win followed in 2023 with a two-stroke victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic, securing her status as one of the world’s top 20 players, and booking her place on the 2023 European Solheim Cup Team courtesy of her position in the rankings.
Maguire had a glittering amateur career, holding the record for the most weeks at the top of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (135), receiving the Mark H. McCormack Medal three years running.
The Irishwoman has further impressive credentials on her resume, holding the record for the lowest ever score in the final round of a Major championship (61), and broke the all-time rookie points records in either the Solheim or Ryder Cup with a total of 4.5 points.
Those points were crucial in guiding Europe to a 15-13 victory in 2021 and springboarded the woman from County Cavan into the world’s top 20, setting the foundations for her LPGA Tour victories in 2022 and 2023.
She is a Ping staff player and uses the brand’s G425 driver and woods, i210 irons, and a Vault Ketsche 2.0 putter. Her bag is completed with two Titleist Vokey SM7 wedges and she plays the Titleist Pro V1 golf ball.
Let’s dive into what’s in the bag of Leona Maguire.
What driver does Leona Maguire use?
Leona Maguire uses a Ping G430 LST driver (10.5°) with a Ping Tour shaft
The Ping LST drivers traditionally have looked more intimidating at address, this new model looks more friendly and playable sat behind a ball. Ping says the 9,083gcm2 MOI is 5.5% higher than its G425 LST predecessor and is now at the level of most rivals’ more forgiving drivers.
Ping drivers usually favor forgiveness over all-out ball speed and distance, but our data shows the LST is a bit of a brute in 2023. The model was within 0.3mph of the fastest average ball speed of our entire test. And while posting data significantly better than our test averages for protecting ball speed and tightening dispersion, it was also our longest low-spin driver of 2023, with a carry distance of 282 yards – an impressive step forward from the previous model.
Thanks to the carbon crown upping the price, the G430 LST is a sizeable investment over previous titanium Ping drivers. But if your game will benefit from cutting spin and you don’t want to give up forgiveness unnecessarily, the LST will be good now and for years to come.

What fairway woods does Leona Maguire use?
Leona Maguire uses Ping G430 Max fairway woods (14.5°, 17.5°, 23.5°) with Mitsubishi Tensei Orange 65 S shafts
A new wrapped carbon crown frees up 10g of weight which is redistributed to lower the center of gravity. A tighter roll radius low on the face maximizes ball speed and reduces spin, so golfers can expect 5+ more yards on low-face impacts. Compared to the previous G425 fairway wood, the center of gravity has been lowered, so golfers swinging between 90 – 105mph (with a driver) can expect a fraction more ball speed and launch (0.3mph and 0.2°), a little lower spin (-200 RPM) and crucially a 14% tighter dispersion.

What irons does Leona Maguire use?
Leona Maguire uses Ping i210 irons (5-UW) with KBS Tour TGI 80 shafts
The i210s are an excellent players’ iron. So good, in fact, that our test pro swapped his iBlades for a set! Their ability to marry good looks with decent levels of playability is what convinced players like Lee Westwood and Tyrrell Hatton to use them.
Unlike muscle-back blades, which are favored by some of the very top players on tour, the i210 is also a great option for good club golfers looking for a solid, reliable iron to keep in the bag for years. Our test pro was particularly impressed with the extra feel he got over the Ping i500s, which can only be put down to additional elastomer in the head which creeps further up the back of the face, supporting the head’s structure and dampening vibration. Put simply, an excellent choice for good golfers.

What wedges does Leona Maguire use?
Leona Maguire uses Titleist Vokey SM7 wedges (55°, 60°)
We’re really picky when it comes to wedges and by testing the jet-black head instead of a chromed model the head shape and size (it’s actually pretty small) are heavily disguised, meaning it’s difficult to spot the quirks which ordinarily catch the eye.
There’s plenty of spin tech wrapped up in the SM7 yet backspin was 500rpm down on our very highest spinning model. That’s certainly not a reason to write the SM7s off, they’re beautifully designed, available in tons of options (lofts, sole grinds, and finishes) and you can rest assured they’ve been optimized to perform in decent players' hands.

What putter does Leona Maguire use?
Leona Maguire uses a Ping 2.0 Ketsch putter
The award-winning Ketsch mallet (Stealth or Slate finish) combines a fully machined 6061 aerospace-grade aluminum body with a stainless steel sole plate for an extremely high MOI and offers exceptional alignment features.

What golf ball does Leona Maguire use?
Leona Maguire uses a Titleist Pro V1golf ball
On the PGA and DP World Tours, it’s more a case of who doesn’t use a Pro V1 or Pro V1x. Some of the biggest names include Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Max Homa, Cameron Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Seamus Power, and Sungjae Im.
