Technology
Callaway has developed three golf balls to match three swing speeds, allowing golfers to custom-fit a Speed Regime ball to deliver their best performance. One of two five-piece balls in Callaway’s SR range, the SR-3 has optimised aerodynamics for more distance at driver swing speeds of 105mph and above. A firmer outer core generates high spin on short irons and wedges. It has the firmest cover in the Speed Regime family. With the creation of its new range, Callaway has not only tested the often-asked question of whether average golfers should be playing the same ball as professionals, but has provided a practical solution. “I’ve occasionally heard golfers question whether or not they should be playing the same ball as Phil Mickelson since they don’t swing like Phil,” said Dave Bartels, Callaway’s senior director of golf ball R&D. “There’s actually a bit of truth to that.”
Tested
As reviewed in our 2014 Balls Test: Close to optimum driver spin and launch numbers. Only OK grip levels greenside, but enough to put it in play and rely on it. Really strong flight with the driver, one of the longest on test, and performed admirably around the green, too, with a soft feel and ample spin.
