JR: Surprisingly low flight around the greens, but loaded with backspin; great fun attacking tight pins.

JT: Grabbed just about the right amount on chips, easy to predict. Impressive control from the rough.

The Titleist Pro V1 golf ball has improved urethane elastomer cover for more distance, a softer feel and increased durability.

The new versions of Titleist’s iconic Pro V1 offer more distance, softer feel and enhanced durability than before. There are many benefits to the new models, but a very obvious one is that they are more durable. An improved urethane elastomer cover with a sun-blocking material means the balls stay whiter for longer, and resist fading or browning if the covers get scuffed or scratched. A new process which applies paint more thinly and uniformly, without sacrificing durability, has also enhanced the aerodynamics of the dimples.

The three-piece Pro V1 has a large, solid core under an ionomer casing layer and a 352-dimple urethane cover. Subtle changes to the core have helped Titleist lower its compression and make the ball feel softer. “That softer compression also makes this the best-feeling Pro V1 yet and gives even more sense of control with shots in and around the green,” says Bill Morgan, Titleist’s senior vice president of golf ball research and development. A lower compression makes the new Pro V1 spin slightly less than the last version, increasing distance off the tee. On shorter shots, the cast urethane cover is designed to create more spin and control. Adam Scott won the 2012 Australian Open in November using a prototype version of the 2013 Pro V1.
