What we say...
In today’s saturated golf ball market key technological breakthroughs are becoming harder and harder to engineer – but with the new 20XI balls, Nike believe they have made a revolutionary discovery. The story in both the new 20XI-s and 20XI-x balls is the core, which has been formulated from a brand new resin that is dramatically lighter than the compression-moulded
cores Nike have used in previous premium balls. Because the core is so much lighter Nike can surround the core with much heavier materials than was previously possible so it effectively has perimeter weighting – or a higher MOI, just like modern clubheads. The effect this has, say Nike, is
less driver spin but more short game spin. The core also helps to deliver faster ball speeds – about 2-3mph according to Nike’s testing – than previous models. As you may expect the 20XI-s has a softer cover designed for better short-game feel and more spin while the 20XI-x has a slightly firmer cover for a little more distance. Both have urethane covers to ensure they both deliver great durability and feel. We don’t have a firm launch date for the balls because they are currently being tested on Tour but expect them later in the year.
